Hello folks. I need a little help if you don't mind. I just bought a Grassi that was stated to me to be the italian model, Tenor, in what is described as very good condition. It's missing the neck.
I played Sax back in the late 60's and restarting now I figured why not gamble $100 on what could be a good find. I questioned the fella selling it and he only could tell me his roommate bought it used for $800.00 then bailed on him leaving the sax behind as compensation for whatever.....
I would love to have a few of you Grassi supporters have a look at this sax I bought and tell me anything about it. It would be wonderful if I got a lead on getting a neck for this sax, if not a grassi, at least something that fits. Any suggestions on how to get a neck for it?
For right now, here is the link where the pics can be seen. Any help would be appreciated, even if telling me it's a fake or whatever. But I'll still need that neck..
Thanks!!!!!

Th tenor I owned was an excellent horn. Still own the alto and the bari . The link you gave does not work!
Rmalloy22-
First off, welcome to the forum, and congratulations on your great deal! The correct link is - http://www.paprap.com/di.grassi.saxophone.html for those interested.
Your tenor looks very similar to one I picked up on e-bay with the intent of re-padding. It is a Grassi. All Grassi's were made in Italy until the last year or two, when they started stenciling Taiwanese horns.
Mine is serial No. 1529X, and is exactly the same as yours with 2 differences. The first is the left hand pinky cluster. In the 3rd photo on your site - your cluster appears to be the traditional 3-across style (traditional on vintage American horns) while mine is the Selmer Mk VI style. The only other difference is that all the the rollers on my horn are Jade green [faux?] mother of pearl.
The line itself is a clone of the Selmer Mk VI - so any replacement neck suitable for a Mk VI should work with your tenor, although it may need some adjustment to the tenon size from a good tech. The octave mechanism on the neck of my tenor has a letter M (for Maria?) done in the same script as the "S" on the Selmer saxes.
As I said - I bought mine with the intention of re-padding, but never got around to it. I paid a little over $200 for it. If you are interested, you could buy the whole horn for $180 plus shipping from Baltimore, MD - and you'd have your neck and all the replacement parts you could ever need. You may even end up liking the left hand cluster layout a little better - depending on what you are used to. Check the price of replacement necks suitable for a Mk VI, and let me know if you are interested. Good places to check are the wanted / for sale section of this forum, eBay, Oleg, Phil Barone and Karsten Gloger. I will tell you though, that some of the prices you will find will make your jaw drop  . Necks are very hard to make properly, and there are more horns without necks than there are necks without horns????
In the meantime-
Best of Luck with your decision to start playing again:!: - I came back after a 22 year layoff and couldn't be happier - just be patient with your progress! -Jeff
See if I can add a picture showing both the neck and the pinky cluster-

What model of Grassi tenor is it ?
W.
W-
It is the Ida Maria Grassi - Mark VI clone. Should be a good horn for the money, but I just haven't the time for my project horns... . Jeff

Does it say "Professional 2000" on it, or "Prestige" ?
W.
It is neither, hence the low price.
