Looks like A regent stencil? Here's a link to a saxpic photo of a regent for comparison

I really like Kohlerts and I am excited about adding this one to the fold.

Got the sax yesterday and it turns out to be a little more beat up than I had hoped. It is a later model Kohlert like an edgware and not a regent or 57. The neck appears to be from an earlier sax, a 55 or 57.

It looks like my Kohlert 57 tenor except that this is two-toned .

If you're not happy with it spider, you shouldn't have much trouble getting your money back. That was a relatively low price you paid for that tenor, IMHO. I know it's disappointing to have an item you buy on eBay not meet your expectations, but the only thing you can do with an "as is" item is turn around and sell it, or sink more money into it and fix it up. If that's not the original neck, I'd think selling it might be preferable.

It may be the original neck. It's hard to say. The brace on the neck looks like a 55 or 57. The later models had a different brace. They are still good horns IHO so I'll hold judgement until I fix it up. I'm not a purist. As long as the horn plays in tune I don't care if the neck is original. The main difference I can find between these and the 57s is the LH table and the Eb/LowC keys are slightly different than the 57 and the octave mechanism is a different setup. I was just hoping I didn't have to do a lot of dent work on it but oh well. It will work out I'm sure. It just looks like it's been through a marching season or two.

Spider, sure looks like a nice Kohlert vintage to me; if it's a post-57 model it's not much later, judging from the serial number. I would think the neck is original, or at the least an older Kohlert neck with the right geometry. The fin is cool.....
I have a 59xxx "Kohlert" model that I've yet to do any needed work on. I had planned on doing a rebuild for resale, but don't know now if I'll be able to part with the sound it has (unless I find another). I like the lefthand table setup on this later model better because the low-Bb extension allows my pinkie to move in only one, lateral direction for C#, B, and Bb, as with many vintage American horns....

wind.miller, you are right. Didn't mean to sound like I was complaining. I'm sure it will be a fine horn. I really believe Kohlert was trying to improve on the 57 design with these horns. I'm not sure why they are thought of as a lesser model. I've never played a vintage Kohlert or stencil that was really all that bad. They seem to be consistently good.

OTOH, I don't care much for the RH side-key ergos. On this "Kohlert," the touches are all situated too far north on the horn body for my taste ..... Aaaah but the sound .....

The only thing that bothered me on my 55 was the strap ring. I moved it a few inches lower to balance the horn better. I articulated the G# key also.
I prefer not to have the Bb hook around next to the B key. I hit it when I am reaching for low B. I'm sure it's just a matter of getting used to it.
