I just received a Gloger Solid silver Bass neck for my Conn Bass. The difference is quite startling, better centre to the sound, intonation is better. The sound has more roundness to it now and the alt responds better too.
My advice to anyone thinking of doing the solid silver neck on their bass sax is do it, you wont regret it. The thunder and bigger centre to the sound is well worth the effort alone but when coupled with better intonation and more immediate response, you will be knocked out. The horn is no like a Conn Bari on Steroids, the full 500 pound Singing Canary, thunder from Down Under etc..........

Which model of Conn Bass? How did the fitting work? Did you buy the neck direct or through a dealer?
Thanks.
What I often read but seldom (never) understand is how Gloger (or Boesken) make a neck that has improved intonation. I'm guessing Karsten did not have the horn in his shop... or did he?
I have a Gloger on one of my tenors and it is wonderful. I just don't understand how there could be "universal" laws that make their work so great yet elude the manufacturers of the original horns.
Is it magic or is it fairy dust???

Ok, but how much did it cost, and what if it had not been so good?
AFAIK you don't get these on a trial basis and that could be lot of money if it is not as good as the original.
BTW what is the "alt"?

BTW what is the "alt"?
I think that's Aussie slang for altissimo. I think I'd rather hear a low A on a 'nino.:D

Low A on a Nino is also possible!
Alt is jingo for altissimo.
As for taking a punt, it was a calculated risk as I have had several Gloger necks for various other saxes and still use one regularly on a martin tenor. Karsten really does know what he is doing when it comes to making necks. Solid silver necks add a new dimension to the sound of your horn, whether it be tenor, alto, Bari or bass..........Also when you spend a small fortune rebuilding and acquiring a bass sax, it would be false economy not to finish the job and get the neck particularly if the original was damaged or modified in my case.
Just wait and see the experimenting I have been doing with mpcs on the Bass!!!!

Try a Zinner 54s-6b from Mr. Eppelsheim with a Legere or a plasticover if you wont it to roar(Especially the plasticover).
How much better was the intonation?
Benedikt Eppelsheim was giving me some discussion on the Conn intonation quirks and has cured it with a neck, crook and taper correction on the first (Octave section) straight taper on a few old time Basses. Apparently there is a calculation error in the first foot or so in the bore that could have been slightly smaller.
If Gloger has addressed most of the problems maybe it would be fruitful not to get to crazy on repairs and invest in a small cost, a neck.

I am working on my own mods for a Bass mpc. I have had a lot of success with these mods on an old Conn Eagle mpc. The biggest thing is the length of the table which increases playabbility dramatically.
The Gloger neck has improved the intonation around the middle D and middle C. The other noticeable difference with the Gloger neck is a more centered sound throughtout the range and easier altissimo. I am looking at a few different mods on a large chamber with Baffle but this will have to wait until I get some time. There are far too many gigs on at the moment to get any decent run at mpc mods.
Summer holidays here soon, then experimentation will begin again in earnest. I would suggest speaking to Karsten regarding the necks because there are two variations with Conn Bass necks from the factory.

With winter here, I will need to watch expenses to see how much heat costs will be in Jan and Feb.
Maybe in the spring I can get rolling on a neck.
My Conn has a variety of strengths in its notes, some big some stuffy, whether that will change with a new neck would be great to hear.
I just repaded as I had three diferent style pads in the horn when I got it.
Made every note sound different now its just a few.

Makes good sense. Have a chat to karsten because there are various things he needs to know before he can make you a neck.
