i am a noob and just started not long on soprano.
i am using s901 and using a s80 selmer mouthpiece.
the problem i face now is that i am unable to get a somewhat good tone. probably sounds very classical and not anywhere toward jazz at all... only when i use plastic reeds... i cant produce a good sound at all with wooden reads... currently i'm using la voz and rico plasticover reeds coz vandoran ones wear out fast...
any suggestions on the reeds, mouthpiece or other techniques?

I find that for example, a mouthpiece that would go well with a size 3 reed for alto, will need to be two or three more tip opening sizes open on soprano. I play a Meyer 5 and Rico select jazz 3S reeds on alto (sometimes 3M). On soprano I play a selmer metal classic E and Rico select Jazz 3S reeds. You'll need a great deal more resistance to get the sound you're looking for. If the tone feels too "closed" or "constrained" to you, like you should be able to play both louder and softer but are stuck in sort of a medium dynamic range, and are having trouble hitting the high notes, chances are, you need a much more open mouthpiece.

I've got a Bari mpc for soprano that, with the right reed, can sound almost alto-like.
