Alright, i've got a problem with high notes. i cant hit anything after high D#. And i can't hit any note dat involves the Front F key.

i notice dat as even though i can get the reed vibrating, and i know it is vibrating because i hear and feel it vibrate, but the weird thing is dat no sound is coming out of the saxophone.

i get the same thing when i blow with only the neck together with the octave tone hole open - reed vibrates, but no sound.

Can someone explain wat is going on here? i thought dat the whole idea behind a sound being produced is because the reed is vibrating. but now the reed is but i cant get any sound. wat's wrong? :(

thanks
ben~

mine's an alto. YAS 82Z. btw, my instructor was play testing it for high notes and he could hit them well. i asked him why i cudnt and he said it's probably becos of embouchure.

should i attempt to play out the high notes on my own? i know they say dat altissimo should only be attempted by advance saxophonists etc..

Spend some time playing the mouthpiece only (no neck, no sax). Start with the mouthpiece exercise (i.e. hitting A = 880 Hz on alto, and keep it), then start to play scales, arpeggios and simple melodies on the mouthpiece.

For developing and playing the altissimo register, it is very important that you have good control of your airstream and oral cavity. Get a copy of Rascher's Top Tone book ("Top Tones for the Saxophone", a slim book and not expensive), and spend some time with the overtone exercises you'll find in it.
