Hi all. As I recently posted, I just picked up a pearl gold alto and I'm really digging it. However, the more I play this horn, the more I realize that the palm keys, most especially the E and F, aren't popping out quite right. I remember that the silver model I tried had very strong palm keys, and everyone around here raves about the high register on the Borganis.
I'm starting to think that there is something flawed with the particular neck on this horn. The key heights are very open, so that can't be the problem. If I play a high F without the octave key the sound is huge, but as soon as I open the octave key the sound greatly diminishes, and I can hear the fundamental pitch one octave below. I'm going back to Roberto's to see if I can at least demo some different necks, because right now this is the only thing holding this horn back from being perfect....
