If you're happy with the tone and response, why switch?

Why not try just drop the couple of bucks and try a 2.5 and see what difference there is. Its not a major investment after all!
It could be your chops have developed and it will help, or it could be you alrady have the right reed for your mouthpiece. It doesnt necessarily follow that better player = harder reed, its all about personal preference, and this message board, although an excellent resource, wont be able to help you decide on that. I guess you just need to "try it and see".

I went from 2.5 up to 4 and now I'm on 3.5, a couple of different brands in their obviously but yeah. I'm even considering the step back to 3 becasue I'm not as relaxed as I should be when I play. It's a matter of preference really. A harder reed will probably imporve your intonation once you're used to it and you will be able to play louder. Your tone may also get a bit fatter, but that varies.
