University of Adelaide's Elder School of Music has a good program. Australian National University is great too.
Another good one will be Victoria College of the Arts.
all school's were recommended to me by other friends. i suggest u do a hellota research about the music schools in Australia before making the decision of choosing a school. see which school's program best caters to ur needs. Of cos, lots of factors like cost, quality of program count as well so take into consideration.
all the best~
Orions, thank for ur suggestion. do u hear about Australian Institute of Music? what do u think of this college? by the way, im from malaysia, just ur neighbour..

Brisbane and Sydney also offer great courses. The AIM course is good but the piece of paper is less thanwhat you would wish to have at the end of a degree course. I would suggest a University as your best course of action as far as studying is concerned. Places are highly contested.

Hey there Inch~
Your situation's very much like mine. i've been on the lookout for unis with gd music programs for a long time already.
Ok, this is what i feel about music colleges. I try to go for only the best. And wat i mean by my definition of best is dat it offers the best quality with the best value and it caters to all my needs.
In my opinion, the unis i mentioned earlier are wat i would consider Australia's premier music universities. Of cos, not everyone will agree with dat :)
Therefore, the one sure thing is to do research about these Unis like i mentioned earlier :) only then will you find YOUR best university dat falls within your financial means, caters to ur needs and gives u a gd vibe etc :)
I would suggest also dat you ask our Australian friends in this forum wat they know about good music schools in Australia. If they attended and experienced a gd program in a gd uni, they are in a better position to give you a clearer perspective.
In the meantime, find out as much as you can :) and i wish you all the best in your quest~

I have a good friend who has been teaching in Brisbane for the past three years. She trained in Montreal and then at the New England Conservatory. She has her stuff together and I'm sure she'd help you as well. I don't want to plaster her personal info here, but if you email me, I'll pass her office number along to you.
She teaches at:
Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University

Marjorie (sp?) Smith I have heard is the leading saxophone teacher in Australia. I do not know where she is located.
Also, I would seriously look into studying with Barry Cockroft, a very active concert artist/composer who studied at Bordeaux with Jean-Marie Londeix and Marie-Bernadette Charrier.
If I were to study in Australia, those would be my top two choices.
You can find Barry Cockroft recordings at http://www.reedmusic.com

Yea, education for an international student is definitely cheaper in Aus than in US.
Just a suggestion, have u tried Canada? Education in Canada is pretty cheap as well. In some cases, cheaper than Australia also. But figure the distance :)

I'm from Australia...
However, I am not too sure on what sort of advice to give you in terms of places to study music - I dont study a different degree at university.
It all really depends on what state you want to study at...
I'm from Newcastle in NSW (approx 1 1/2 hours north of Sydney), and we have a music degree at Newcastle University, which is linked with the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music.
There are many universities in Sydney that provide music degrees, and many states as well...
I'm sorry that I don't know more about it, but studying music as a major was never an option for me.
If you want, I could give you websites of universities in Australia - their names, etc... To help you?
