Hullo All. Just been trying out Fibracells alto and tenor. I`ve got a reel red bottom lip and about a cm. below it. No pain but it looks like lipstick residue (and no I hav`nt been). Maybe the cause is something else, but has anyone experienced this? I ran a very, very, fine emery cloth over the contact surface of the alto reed before trying and it does`nt seem as bad.

I used to get that also. Just start using some sort of medicated chap stick. I use carmax. Just put it on any time you arn't playing/eating. It'll help. I have that feeling of the chapped lips. Mine used to burn...ouch!

Good thought, but what about putting the lip salve on prior to playing? Maybe it would add a bit of lubricity and reduce any abrasion. Russ

If you use chap stick or lip salve of any kind and end up running out, I find that cork grease is a good alternative when you don't have anything else around.

Wow! I thought I was the only one with this problem!

I've visited numerous dermatologists in an attempt to find a solution to my EXTREMELY chapped, red, inflamed lower lip (and about a cm below it :D), and unfortunately, I haven't found a permanent solution.

However, I use chap stick constantly, and medicated ones or ones with sunblock in it help me the best (I, specifically use plain old Blistex).

Also, my dermatologist prescribed an ointment (known as Alcometasone ointment) which I put on my lower lip; you may want to pursue getting some for yourself. It helps a lot.

If anyone has a solution to this pain-in-the-butt, it would be much appreciated! Good luck! :D

Are each of you playing Fibracell? Interesting if you are.

Nope, I've never touched a synthetic reed in my life. Weird, huh? Obviously it's not just the reed.
