View Full Version : Fibracell "gurgle"?

I'm new to the sax, but I've read a lot of posts here regarding the Fibracells, so I thought I'd give one a try. I got one yesterday and the playability was very good, the sound was okay/good, but it seemed that after I played awhile I got sort of a "gurgling" sound that I don't get with cane reeds. It's almost as if the moisture/saliva builds up on the top surface of the reed in a way it doesn't on cane reeds (since it's not absorbed into the reed at all), and creates this sound. Has anyone else experienced this?

When I first started playing, again, I would hydrate too much. As a result, I would produce too much moisture as I played. Because off that, I would have that problem also. As well as significant moisture on pads etc. etc. Now, after playing for about 6 months, I get much less moisture and rarely get too much moisture on the reed. I, too, often use fibracells and other non cane reeds.

My question is: How did you find any FIBRACELLS? I have been wait listed by WWBW for months!

They had some at the local Sam Ash store. It did have a little note in the case saying that they were the "new" version, but no date to confirm it.

Yeah. The used ones are half price. And come in flavors (beer, coke, chewing gum, etc.):D

Actually, it says, "...made with a new, improved fiber."

Well I`ve bought some Fibracells, one for the tenor and one for the alto. The sound to me was terrible and they are not at give away prices. I`m not adverse to synthetics and like the Legeres and plasti` coated reeds but not the Fibracells. Anyone can have mine (if they come to Aus. to pick up)! Russ:(
