I have an alto sn 16XX, is beautiful very heavy horn with near mint silverplate, rolled tone holes, split bell keys.. but is currently in need of overhaul to be playable.. was wondering if anyone else out there has one of this vintage that knows how they play? maybe a serial number list so I can get a rough estimate of its age? Anything else of interest?

I have tried calling the company for info but as I speak little to no italian it wasn't much good :?

Try emailing R&C, that's how I found out about my horn. I have a 1940's R&C Alto, I got vsome info from the manufacturer through email. They have the chance to translate it that way. My sn is 56XX, so I think your's may be a little older. It's hard to tell, though, because the serial number system may have been changed over the years. I'd way send them an email. What other engravings are on the horn? I can tell you about when it was sold if I know everything the horn had engraved on it. Pics would be nice. Send me a PM, I'll help you out.
