View Full Version : Important! Dealer Directory Remodel!

Chris S

We're going to be re-formatting the Dealer Directory (US only at this point) so that information is easier to find. I'll re-post here when everything's up and running. The basic idea is that all the US dealers are now going to be categorized by region and then into individual states. No one will be able to post a new thread in the forum, but will only be able to reply to threads that we start. Each dealer will have their own thread where ALL reviews will be posted. The first post will contain all pertinent contact information.

That being said.... this is also a call for submissions. Assume that we don't know any dealers. PM the following information to Saxismyaxe or Thesonandall:
Name of shop:
Name of Owner/Operator/Lead Technician:
Location: (Street Address if possible)
Phone Number:
Website:
Email:
Specialities:

Please don't send us a review. That's not what that email address is for. If you send us a review, we'll delete it.

We will send you an email when we get your submission and it should be posted (once the new improved directory is up and running) within 48 hours of when you recieve the reply email.

Questions, comments, complaints or concerns, this thread is the place to do it.

I would like to suggest also including in your directory listing and info solicitation the name of the owner/operator/lead tech of the shop.

Chris, would it be possible to maintain here a running list of shops you've received submissions for so that we don't duplicate effort?

chitown, duly noted. We'll add that information. And I'll try to keep up with letting people know who we've gotten submissions for. I'll check the email in a second and let you know.

I sent you a list of some of the "big guys" but I wasn't sure if those were needed or not. I have a large list of national retailers somewhere if you need it.

Hi Jmax,
By all means, if you could email both Chris and myself with any and all info you might have, it would be a great help. Thanks for the offer!

We're blowing through all these guys. Keep sending 'em in! I envision having one of the most complete directories of dealers/techs on the internet. And if not.... at least it'll be organized. ;)

Sned us your favorite local music store, doesn't matter if it deals with pro horns, student horns, (but please let us know if they deal exclusively with one or the other), whatever.

Why ONLY The US:?

Chris S

At this time, we're focusing on the US for two reasons.

The board slightly more US citizens than citizens of anywhere else. The next closest would likely be England and Australia. I'm not sure which country has more, as we don't require that information when registering.

We're testing to see if the format will work. If it does, Europe is next on the list. We'll likely break it down into country at that point. It might also be of note that saxismyaxe and I are the ones creating it, and we're more familiar with the geography over here. After Europe we'll likely do Australia and Canada, and after that.... who knows?

I was only asking because of dealers like Saxophnonewinkel (probably spelt wrong) and Matthews music both of whom have good wolrd wide reputations.
i am looking for a Yani A901 and Matthews is at least $500 cheaper than i can get it here.

Duly noted. Thanks Bernards20040!

Added: Luyben Music and Cedar Music.

This is the last call for dealers/techs to be added. I'm thinking this is going to go live in the next few days, and then there will likely be a lot of folks adding things. At this point, I'm not sure if the reviews and contact info are going to be in the same place or not. We're still working on that.

LAST CALL!

Send 'em in.

So glad to hear you're taking on this huge project, which I've recommended on more than one occasion.

This is the kind of service that will truly add value to this site and demonstrates the awesome power of the Internet as an information resource. Kind of like a BBB just for sax consumers--how sweet! I love competition.

I am already thinking of a few shops that I will be emailing you.

Keep up the good work!

Isn't it possible you can add businesses over time? That's the beauty of the Internet, isn't it? It doesn't have a fixed deadline for publication and can always be added to/improved along the way. I hope this directory will be allowed to grow--with moderator approval, of course--over time. :)

The Saxophone Shop/Band and Orchestra Co. added.

You might add to this list of prominent online sellers--cybersax.com (run by one "Bear") and Wichita Band Instrument Company, the latter being one of the oldest, most respected vintage sax dealers going way back before the Internet. Bear, with his rather memorable site name, deserves a prominent spot, as he was one of the early online dealers. Since then, WWS and Junkdude (it helps when you're chronicled in a best-selling book) have kind of eclipsed him, but he is still worthy of inclusion in your list above. Great photographer, too, I might add. In fact, aren't a lot of his photos in use on saxpics? I heard that once.

Here's another one for ya--The Saxophone Shop in Skokie (formerly Evanston), Illinois. Been in business for a quarter century and well known by Chicago area saxophonists.

Thanks Swingtone, Actually those have already been added to the listings, we simply didn't list all of them here as we are almost ready to roll this out.

If you take a look at the last listing in my quoted post above, you'll see that The Saxophone Shop is already mentioned. ;)

Thanks, man. Wow, I must admit I glossed over the list but am surprised that others mentioned the Sax Shop, as I don't hear it mentioned too often on here.

Many of the listings that I've added were from my own list. I tried to fill in the blanks left from the suggestions that we received. I'm actually distantly related to the Ray's that own Wichita Band, so I had to list them.:D

OK folks, we are going to be unleashing this puppy in the next day or so, however bear in mind that this is a skeleton of what it will be. Think of it as an ongoing work in progress. For the time being, the dealer evaluations and reviews will be in a separate forum.

I would encourage everyone to take a look at the vendors already added (which is by no stretch of the imagination exhaustive), and send in those vendors that you would like to see added.

Please do use the template shown in the first post of this thread, and send them to:
Directory Email (dealerdirectory@saxontheweb.net) only.
Since Chris and I are both working on this, it is better that all correspondence regarding the Dealer Directory goes to the one Email address.
Thanks!

I suppose this is the point where I should mention that the new directory has been up for a few days. If you have additions, send an email to the address listed previously. It might be a few days before one of us gets it though, I've got family in from out of town, and have been busy at work. Also, no complaints about "Well *this state* isn't in the *this region*!" We regionalized it only to make it a little easier to find. Say someone's looking for a dealer/tech in Oregon. Depending on where they lived, it might be easier to go to Washington, Nevada, Idaho, California....

So we just put 'em in different regions that had a few other states close together. If you have a problem with it.... don't use it. Otherwise, help us improve it and make it grow. Let us know about your favorite dealer/tech. The one that you'd send your favorite pro player to, or your beginning student. Doesn't matter.

PM Woodwind in Illinois seems to have been misplaced or stolen.
