Hi all, i am trying to figure out what a good jazz trumpet is because i am starting in a big band on the trumpet fairly soon and need to get my own trumpet to play on. Any ideas would be great.

P.S what is the trumpet equivalent of a Mark VI?

Cheers

My trumpet friends all tell me,
the trumpet's Mark 6 equivalent is the New York Mount Vernon Bach Stradivarius, made in the 40's.
Also Martin Committee models from the 50's
Today, many players love the Wynton Marsalis inspired Monet trumpets.
Get on the internet and talk to the trumpet guys.
Good Luck!

I agree with King Koller completely. I have a Martin Committee (1957) and it's a great horn, and I've played Bachs. Personally, I would not use the Martin for lead work, maybe not even for section work in a really loud big band. It's my dream horn, though because it's a medium to medium-small bore horn and perfect for the kind of combo work I would use it for.

IMO the Bach Strad is the Mark VI.

There are also great horns that some might use for more speciality-type work. Go to the SOTW for trumpeters at: http://www.trumpetherald.com/
