You probably saw the same ad on Ebay I'm looking at now. The 800 is the less fancy version of the 880 like I own. My 880 is great. They tend to be spectacularily undervalued in the used market, and I'm not sure why.

i play a yas 23 and my instructor says i am ready for the next level. do you think this would be a good step up horn? the price is in my ballpark and it looks like it is still in good shape.

The 800 series was introduced in 1978. The 880 was the more robust pro sax with the 800 being the standard pro sax. The 8xx series was followed by the 9xx series.
The 800 and 880 horns share the same body, bow, and bell. The 880 has an underslung neck while the 800 has a standard neck. The 880 also has double arms on some of the bell keys and is generally a more robustly built horn.

I play a vintage Yani - A5 and I think the 800 would make a fine step up and they are really good bargains.

Yeah, except it's not a really step-up horn (which are kind of a waste of time coming from a student instrument), it's more of a pro level horn.
Anyway you get it, be prepared to sink a few hundred more into it to get it into proper playing condition.

JFW makes a good point in that Yanagisawa has never made anything other than pro horns. They are presently producing around 8000 horns a year. All they make are saxophones.

I used to own an A800 but it was stolen. It was a fabulous horn, well built with a great tone. These are pro horns and far superior to the Yamaha you mention.
