Hi guys, This in not my frist time here but first post so take it easy with me ok:) I have just pick up my sax again for the first time in 8years, I wasnt fed up with it or anything like that,I guess this is going to sound silly to you lot,But I was scared I would come across somthing that I could not sort out.I think it was my teacher that scared me , he told me I was coming on so good I was 4 lesson up on where I should be. Well that was it ,most guys may have took it as a pat on the back,But I want so much to learn that I was now scared I would fail.so I put it away and never pick it up again till 3 weeks ago.
Im now going to ask you guys I want to buy a metal mouthpeice dont want to spend 100 of pounds on one as We have just had a baby, and here in the Philippines you have to pay for every little thing. So what kind of Metal Mouthpeice would you guys say I should try , I do have other mouthpeices but I want to try Metal.? Help Guys pls.

I'll let others recommend metal mpcs.
As for your concerns about "failing", many of us have experienced these types of feelings. Here are some links that can be of help:

The only way to be sure of not failling is by not doing anything.
The road to success is paved with failures.

Don't worry about failing. We've all been through that. Even the professionals screw up. My sax play is okay at best, but I always enjoy my sax classes. I think you will too. Have fun!

Hi scottie Anthony,
I live here in the Philippines and plays the sax as a hobby. I am afraid you may not be able to buy a metal mouthpiece here because music stores of which there are very few, do not carry them in their stocks. Your choice would be limited to Yamaha 4C and 7CM which you can buy from the Yamaha main store in Makati, Metro Manila and Berg & Larsen which some branches of J&B music stores sell. If you want to hook up with me to pursue our common interest in sax playing, you can send me an e-mail at this address: fjrenegade@yahoo.com.

"What ever is worth doing is worth doing poorly" said my hero, GKC. Failure is never playing bad enough that theres no room for improvement and no chance to taste the sweet victory of a real accomplishment against all odds---so get some extraordinarily difficult piece that makes your head ache just looking at all those little black notes and have at it! Play poorly & have fun doing it!

I felt the same way as you did when my first music teacher insisted that I start working with the 6th grade students in the advanced class because I wasn't really getting anything out of staying with the 5th grade students. Anyway I got scared when I didn't really understand how to play an eighth note... I think I was having a bit of a stupid moment at the time anyway. It was that and because the advanced students were learning pieces for a performance that I wasn't to be learning. I felt like I was an Alto sax Mouthpiece trying to fit onto a Bari Sax. (small person trying to fit into something that was way too big for me, I suppose) So that scared me into sticking with beginning band instead and suffering having to hear the two clarinet players squeak and squawk like mad. Although I dare say it wouldn't have made any difference because we changed instructors the next year and I was stuck with a bunch of beginners anyway.
Dunno what to say about mouthpieces though... Good luck finding a good one though!

Actually, then you'd be failing to do anything!;)

I envy you guys.. I'm the only Flip playin sax on my area, which is in Scarborough ON, Canada. Most of my friends are flip too, but they dont play sax. I have a lot of resources but no playing partner.
Some suggestions about mouthpiece, be careful on getting some Bergs, you have to try it before you buy it. Some bergs are pretty inconsistent, lucky me i got a good one. I also use Beechler Diamond Inlay which gives me the same edge and brightness a berg can plus more body.
Talking about failing, let that not hinder you to play and reach you peak. failing is just a part of playing, you just have to learn from it.
God bless brothers.....

You can always try wwbw if there arent stores nearby. Otto links are always good, but sometimes inconsistent in quality controll. The stm links would probably be the best metal piece in the pricerange imo, and you can always look on ebay for a cheaper one.
on the subject of failing, go ahead and fail, it will only make you better. Failing is like getting a cold, it happens periodically but it never happens the same way twice. Conquer failure by failing. good luck

I don't remember who said that, but they're words to live by.

Goodness, I hope the OP found a mouthpiece by now.
OTOH, WW&BW's waiting list can be up to two years.:|

Failing: its a part of life, you have to do it sometime to get somewhere.
I have realized failing will make you try harder and the success thereafter is twice as sweeter as it would of been by succeeding the first time.
