Hello all, thanks for at least attempting to answer my question.

While looking through some horns today, I came across a Holton tenor, marked Frank Holton and Company. Following the numbers, it looks to be from 1914 but that could be wrong. Horn is stamped Low Pitch, and, oddly enough, Eb. The horn looks to have been refinished at some point in it's life, but the Eb doesn't look to be a Bb that's been buffed into submission. I've been pretty hard pressed to find much on this make of horn, aside from the fact that Holtons in general are not well thought of.

I would also like to know if this would be a decent playing horn with some love and repadding. Thank you again.

From my experience, NO. Do not invest any money in that horn.Keep looking.

Thanks for that, though it wouldn't be much cost for me, I apprentice in a repair shop and would be doing it myself. I do already have a tenor, a Martin Medalist, nothing great but it suits me since I'm a bari player anyway.

I suppose the Holton is destined to be a piece of wall art.

LBA - what is your experience please? I am looking at a cheap Holton sop. Are these too to be relegated to trash?
