I saw this pretty cold and lifeless description of a sax on www.invaluable.com auction site, which lists antiques auctions from many auction houses:

Lot 68. A Plated Tenor Saxophone By Rene Guerot Paris

It's up for auction tomorrow in Leyland in Lancashire, UK. There was no picture and no further description of the sax whatsoever, so I don't know what year of manufacture, whether it's silver, gold or maybe nickel plated. I'll try to find out more about it. Has anyone heard of this sax maker before?

Seems like a misprint. There is another sax for sale at same auction listed as a Rene Guenot, not Guerot. There is some scant info' on Guenot saxes on the web, linked with the name 'Reliable'. Anybody know anything about them?

Well here it is. It's turned up on eBay. Looks a rare and beautiful beast doesn't it? Wish I'd bid for it now at the original auction!!

I looked it up in a friend's New Langwill - http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0946113041/ref=sr_aps_books_1_1/202-7791048-4257420 - today. Apparently Rene Guenot was the name applied to jazz instruments manufactured by Douchet, who flourished in Paris from 1930 - 50. I have a soprano arriving next week - my first, so I'm in no position to judge its quality unfortunately ....

Dear All,

does anyone have any info on dates / serial numbers from this french saxophoe maker? I have a baritone sax of quite early construction. With serial number, 1580. The b + bflat keys are opposite sides of the bell. Top tube twist not the same direction as a modern sax,Has the full range excluding the low A, has a right hand g# perl trill key, very tiny left hand g# touch piece. Key guards are hand hammered on the ends that are soldered to the body of the sax. Speker key extends to the crook from the sax and is not attached to the crook. .. I would be very pleased to hear from you… regards Paul ( North Wales , UK ) paul_firmstone@hotmail.com

Hey, i bought a rene guenot baritone on ebay yesterday. The seller said it had a complete overhaul short time ago and for that it was very cheap.
The description was not good and there was only one Photo, but I decided to take the risk :)
