I have an old Kohlert tenor sax made in Czechoslovakia. It only cost me $500.00. I am wanting to completly rebuild and relacquer. How much should I expect to pay for the work. and where should I take it. Also, Iwould like any information on this instrument I can get. Thanks,

I personally wouldn't relaquer a horn. I have an later 50's or early 60's Kohlert tenor that has most of the laquer gone and I think it looks cool that way. Slap a nice darker mouthpiece on it and the horn really comes alive. An overhaul/full repad runs between $400 and $500 in my area which generally includes replacing any necessary corks. If you do a full repad try to put on some flat metal resonators as I think that style of pad was what they came with. Mine has all nylon but if I ever have a full repad done I'll be opting for the flat metal resonators.

I can't recall what it says on the horn in terms of orgin. The serial number is around 62xxx. I'm near chicago and use Russ Schneider for repairs. Let me know if you need his contact info. He does great work with whatever vintage horn I bring him.
