Hey Everyone,

I just bought a Meyer's mouthpiece for my YAS-23 alto sax. It sounds great and I love it! I didn't think that a mouthpiece would make much difference in sound quality. Boy, did it! My sax doesn't sound much like a beginner model anymore. I always thought that it was just the lacquer or material that made the difference. I also used the Meyers with the professional models and it gave those saxes the little extra in sound quality.

I still do like both the Yamahas and the Selmer Paris models, but the Selmer was a little heavier horn than the Yamahas. But, I did like the rich and bold sound it made. For me, the Yamahas were a little lighter and freer to play and the keys had a better feel than the Selmers. The sound quality was great. I'm still deciding on sax preferences, but I was very happy to get the Meyers. I highly recommend it for anyone.

Meyers are great, aren't they? I loved mine...until I bought a Selmer Super Session! That got me obssessed with trying new mouthpieces in case I find another one better! Haha. But stick with the Meyer. It's a great mouthpiece!

Mouthpiece selection will usually have more impact on your sound than sax selection. Practice is still #1.

That is correct, but I also agree that practice is very important. Meyer's mouthpieces take some getting use to;especially after using the Yamaha 4C mouthpieces. I got mine at Sam Ash in L.A. They were very helpful and accomodating in allowing me to try out different alto saxes. For me, it's still a tough decision between the Yamaha 875's and the Selmer References. I will keep researching these two in more detail. I also tried a Cannonball. It's a good horn, but the keys take some getting use to. Any advice would help. Thanks.
