I can sometimes get the G3 to sound using fingering LH 1X3 RH 1X3 but it often sounds stuffy or muted. In comparison, I have no problems at all with A3, B3 and C3 they pop out nice and clear. Is there a better or different alternate fingering for the G3? or is my horn?

check it out - this works great and is straight from the mouth of Phil Dwyer! Use LH 1+3 and RH 1+(the alternate f# key). That's the ket between the lower stack and the RH palm keys. Works well if you lean into it by pressing the altF# key after starting to blow, and it's an easy way to trill from G3 down to F#. Good luck!

mojobari gave me a G3 fingering for baritone that also happens to be the best I've found for my SBA tenor:

LH: 1 3
RH: side-Bb

Recently, I acquired a Couf Superba I tenor, which has a high F# key. That extra key allows a very precise G3:

LH: Alt-F
RH: high F# key

That allows a nice trill with F#3:

LH: Alt-F + Bis
RH: high F# key

Frankly, these two fingerings are so precise that they are not as flexible for embouchure bending as fingerings without the F# key.

On horns without the extra F# key, substitute the RH side Bb key for the F# key, and they'll work, although not as precisely.
