Donate a mouthpiece to SOTW. (It will make you feel good.)

This is a follow-up thread because the first one got pretty long.

Thanks to all mpc donors, and members who bought them,

Vandoren A35 hard rubber alto mouthpiece. $35, and I'll pay for USPS shipping in the U.S., so all the $ will go to SOTW. Even without the kharmic benefits, a good deal on an excellent and high-quality French mouthpiece. Click on my username at left to send PM or email.

Update: gone! (Harri, be looking for that $35 to arrive via PayPal right away.)

This is a very bright and centered vintage Runyon. I don't know much about it since it is unmarked other than "Santy Runyon" and "7".
It somehow resembles in tone and they way it plays a SS Berg "1" chamber.
The black paint from the internal chamber is peeling off, other than this it is in very good conditions.
This has been one of my many unsuccessful attempts to get to like a bright mouthpiece, so I am letting it go.
I bought it on ebay for 75$, I'd asky you here 60$ to the entire benefit of Harry. I pay the air mail shipping to the US, Canada and Europe.
Great deal for this price!

I ship once Harry confirms me receipt of funds.
Send me a PM if you have questions.

Thanks for looking

Ain't it paint, albeit starting to wear off?

honkytone
09-11-2006, 10:17 PM
Yeah, it's paint. Just received it. Can anyone here say with certainty that the paint ISN'T original? It's an old Runyon, that's for sure, maybe he coated them inside at one point. Anyway, that bugs me a lot less than the polish job it got on someone's buffer wheel. I wish guys would let stuff like this age gracefully, rather than try to make it look "new." Anyway, the piece looks like it oughtta be fun and you can't beat the cause. Thanks, rispoli.

its actually a teflon coating, a bunch of the older runyons had it. Ive got two of them with that type of coating inside

Teflon. Interesting. Kinda seems like it, actually. Maybe to keep that airflow from sticking on the way out? :) This is a very nice playing and sounding piece, btw, at least for me on my King Marigaux tenor. Has a little more oomph and projection than my Florida Link STM 6, with a lot personality. It's a keeper (at least for this week!).

You "donate" the mouthpiece by having the buyer pay SOTW instead of you - then you send the mpc once confirmed SOTW has received the funds. Harri will tell you.

I'm interested in the tenor Tone Edge - how much do you want donated for it? I'll offer $40

It's a smoker. The only tenor I own and hope to own. Lotta character in that horn, too. More, I suspect, than a lot of folks would appreciate.

Since I am still receiving a trickle of PMs from readers of Thunderwhale's post entitled "where can I get that NY sound" or something like that, in the alto mouthpiece category, where I offered to donate the above mouthpiece incl. shipping...
yes Thunderwhale "bought" and received the JJ, ie he sent the money to Harri and I am glad both of us could help a bit the SOTW.

Thanks to everyone who PM'd me for their interest in the piece, and in supporting this great forum.

This sop M9 is as new (and I've just washed it!) but no lig/cap included.

I just got it as a bonus in a trade with another SOTWer (Tryptykon)
I've already got an M7 which is my preferred sop piece.

This piece (if you can play that open) should give you a bright sound ala Kenny G, Dave Koz, Mindi Abair and those who copy them (well, a lot depends on your soprano and yourself).
BTW it was Mindi's sop piece of choice before she switched over to Oleg. ;) Check out:

www.teenjazz.com/articles/influences/mindi_abair.html

$26 is the price, sent to me, knowing that $10 will go to this Forum, $10 to Saxpics (I'll add that to the proceeds of the sale of my metronomes). The rest will (hopefully) cover my packing, driving to USPS and their shipping, including tracking and insurance to lower 48 US. Shipping from NJ. If someone outside the 48 US is interested, we'll adjust shipping accordingly.

I take paypal from cash source (no credit cards) or MO only.
Please email (preferably) or PM me to communicate (just click on my username).
Happy festive season everyone!

Well folks, I am also surprised at the lack of response about the M9 sop piece. I had several PMs asking for my M7 (my best sop piece so far) earlier this year.

My apologies: I know this is not the right place but I don't know where else to post this.

My local Tower records is closing in a couple of days and they are clearing out everything at 80% off. I bought 8 CD's yesterday simply because there was a sax player on the front. All but a couple were $18, so I paid $4.50 a piece. Turns out that except for one CD it is all smooth jazz, which is not my taste. The final CD is by Quanti Bomani: "View of the World", which I am not sure how to characterize but not my taste either. If anyone wants to donate $20 (or more :) ) to Harri I will ship all 8 CDs (together) free of charge within the US. That is $2.50/CD all as new.

The other 7 CDs are the following:

Andre Delano: "Full Circle"
Boney James: "Shine: (With George Benson, George Duke and other)
Eric Darius: "Just Getting Started"
Gerald Albright: "New Beginnings"
Mike Phillips: "You Have Reached Mike Phillips"
Ray Gaskins: "Shady Lane"

Hallo Dave

Andrew here; how are you? Presumably well off if you can give away all these pieces.

If the SL4 is still available, I'll take it -- I have a Link Tone Edge (7* I think) and a Pillinger bronzite marked 1.40 x 18, I'm assuming the Vandoren will come in between them as regards tip opening and general oomph. Or is it quite a different beast to either?

If you can confirm the SL4 is mine I'll try and get the money to Harri today, but things are busy, it may not happen till tomorrow.

If the Optimum is spoken for, I guess the S15 would be OK. You tell me which would float my boat best.

A

DaveR
03-30-2007, 03:28 PM
Hi Andrew, yes, I came over all charitable and have more to give!

The SL4 is still available, but it and the S15 are both more closed than the Pillinger. The SL4 and S15 both measure around 1.23 and are short facings. This makes them very reed friendly, very easy to play in the upper registers and gives them very stable intonation. I know at least one player in London who uses an S15 for jazz, but in the main it is classical players such as Claude Delangle who use them.

This particular S15 is brighter than this particular SL4 (not necessarily the norm). Both have been road tested with the MNB on tours to Russia and Japan. Both play well, but I have duplicates that I prefer - and my mouthpiece drawer is TOO FULL!!!!!!!

You decide, you won't regret either one at these CRAZY prices - in a good cause!:)

amg

OK, I'll have the SL4. Will do the Paypal thing this evening.

Looking forward to hearing about Freddie's boxwood tenor piece. Making a mouthpiece out of a box must take some talent

... actually I have some boxwood in my loft I was once thinking of making a couple of planes from (woodworker's planes, that is...). Perhaps I should send it to FG.

Thanks for your positive support Pierre. I have been wondering whether people thought the stuff I was offering was in some way inferior, the prices I'm setting are low I know.

The truth is that I have way more mouthpieces than is either healthy or right for any one person to possess, so I am 'clearing my decks'.

All the pieces I have offered here are good examples in good condition; I'm letting them go because I do not need them now. I have some altos and some tenors to give too - all in good time. :) :)

No-name vintage hard rubber alto mouthpiece...is shaped like a Model A Gregory...even has the brass band on the shank. It has three lines on the shank as well...could be a transitional model from the Model A to the Los Angelos model?

Good facing work, no issues, dark mellow sound ala Paul Desmond. $50 to Harri picks up this treat. Email to WalterNak8@yahoo.com with any questions. Pix not available but for someone who must have them, I could probably figure something out. Anything for this forum. 8-)

I've noticed that some of the SOTW members enjoy a good cigar from time to time. I don't have a mouthpiece to contribute, but I do have some premium cigars. I'll ship a five pack of assorted premiums - (1) Opus X, (1) Anejo, (1) Davidoff, (2) Ashton VSG, (2) custom rolled by a very good Cuban roller, a humidipak, and an inexpensive cutter if you'll donate $70.00 to SOTW. MSRP of these is more than $70.00 and 4 of the above are are unavailable. BTW, I always throw in a bonus stick or two. Buy the package within 24 Hrs. and you'll get 3 Bonus Sticks. :)

Sorry - but due to numerous custom laws - this is a USA deal only. :(

Forum,

I just received the (almost) most beat up, ugly Alto, Dukoff L9 that I have ever seen. I was the only bid on eBay, it was that ugly and discolored. Lotsa lig screw marks on the top of the barrel.

It has a great sound but a bunchs nicks and other small problems that a refacer will fix.

So, in celebration, I donated $40.00 which is more than the price of the Duck .. Quack Quack. :!:

Keep it smooth,

1. Define item and a picture is a bonus.

2. Determine the price of the item.

3. State where the item is shipping from and shipping costs if any.

4. Wait for a response and then a ping from Harri once the funds have been transfered.

Hey guys...I have what was given to me as a meyer G mouthpiece. Unfortunately, it looks like someone took a hacksaw on it and it is currently unplayable. If you sent it to a refacer, I'm sure it would play great. Right now it looks like crap!

$20 to Harri and it's yours.

Hey Saxoholoic-

Are you looking for an alto or tenor piece? I have two tenor mpcs: a Meyer HR 6 facing and a Yanagisawa HR 4. Let me know if you're interested. All the $$ would go to SOTW of course. In fact, anyone who's interested please let me know.

Cannonball 5 Meyer like piece refaced and opened to .083 by Ed Zentera. It is a really nice mpc. My son really liked it but prefers the Coufs EZ refaced for him. The openings are a bit smaller and they have a smaller profile.
I think it is a bargain at $65.00 with priority shipping and delivery confirmation, and I will guarantee your satisfaction.
If you wear a mpc. patch and don't like it after a week - I'll buy it back from you for $65.00.

Even though it was not posted in this thread, I wanted to publically thank jrvinson45 for his generosity. I posted last week in a wish list thread about finding a cheap alto for my 8-yr old son to learn on, but did not really ask for or expect any reply. I was completely surprised when John contacted me and offered to send me his old MexiConn alto - and did not want anything in return. In fact, he even refused to let me pay for shipping.

So, to recognize John's generosity, I'd like to donate $25 towards SOTW in his name. Paypal sent.

Thank you John!!!! Much appreciated!!!

I would like to donate a Rousseau Classic 4R (alto sax) for a value of $40. For those that are interested, it is a classical mouthpiece that has a tip .063". It is in excellent condition and tonal-wise, it has a similar warmth to the Vandoren Optimum.

Here are photos:http://www.flickr.com/photos/23403928@N04/sets/72157606710048660/

Once the SOTW staff clears the donation and sends me your address, it will be sent from California, U.S. using 1st Class with insurance.

Thanks.

I have a old (vintage?) box of 10 LaVoz Alto sax reeds, "MH" (Medium Hard) hardness. The box in unopened, and still in its original plastic seal. I'd like to donate this box of reeds to SOTW.

Here is a picture (you can see the old style box):
http://www.mailmansband.org/images/LaVozAltoMH1993.jpg

My regular reeds were LaVoz medium. I bought 2 boxes of the Medium Hards in 1993 as an experiment. I tried most of the other box, on which I wrote "new 11/4/93" - that's why I know the box I am offering here was purchased in 1993. If you are wondering why in the world I still have 15 year old, still-sealed box of sax reeds in my possession, this thread explains it:
http://forum.saxontheweb.net/showthread.php?t=75769

This box has the old packaging - the reeds are not placed into plastic reed holders as they are today, but are placed between sheets of heavy paper, with extra "stuffing" inside the box to keep things from moving around.

I see that WWBW is selling new boxes of LaVoz alto reeds for $17.99, so I am asking the buyer to send $18 to Harri. (I will cover the shipping anywhere to the lower 48 states via USPS).

Thanks.
