Hi,
I just came back from my local music store from trying out all the major brands, selmer serie III, yanigisawa, yamaha, etc... near the end I was really leaning towards the semer when the repairman gave me a crazy looking alto cannonball (silver and gold body w/ gold keys) and told me to try it out without looking at who made it. It was amazing, I shook that store; I love the body that the sound has to it and blowing is so easy! well I fell in love with it so I zoomed home to read everything I can about cannonball. After doing the research I think that this is the sax for me but the store's price for it was about $2300 which from what I read, is too high...where can I find the cannonball I want for cheaper?
Plz help me, Ive been playing on a Bundy II and yamaha student' get me out of this nightmare...

Ah, now you've discovered the secret of the CBs. They very tightly control the distribution, and thus they avoid price competition, keeping profits up for all concerned.

Does your store have an after Thanksgiving sale? I know it's a long way off, but if you can wait, 10-15% can go a long way...I plan to work like crazy this summer and get a Raven Bari in Nov.

I have never understood why anyone would want to break a price down to bare bones. You don't realize what it does to the over all market when you drive the price down. For example, everyone wants to know where they can find an above average store and repair facility. Well, its hard for them to stay in buisness, when prices are so low the lack of profit causes the store to close. Many high volume chain store and whole sale stores distroy profits by setting up web sites and selling in high volume at ugly low prices.
Something else, you should look at is Service and Repairs.
At our store every customer is treated with respect and recieves the most professional service possible.
When a customer buys a product from us , I will be the first to tell them,we can't compete with the larger store's prices in some cases, but we will always out service them from the floor to the shop.
Every student model purchase recieves a 1-yr main. and adjustment agreement, Professional instruments recieve 2-yrs.
If you have any experience with repair prices, you will agree that this is worth its weight in gold.
This allows the customer to save quite a bit of money and the retailers to make money as well.
There are many other reasons you should support your local music retailer.
The main advantage local music shops have is that you can try the actual instrument/ mouthpiece that you might buy.
However, my local music shop has no selection, no repair department, no knowledge of the saxes they sell and prices that are 2 times higher than internet shops.
It's a vicious circle: no one buy horns from them, so they assume that there is no demand, so they don't stock sax stuff, so no one buys horns...

My best suggestion to anyone is support your local music store.
DanY, if you see a problem, the next time you go in to that store, print of a copy of this forum and show them the topic of conversation. Offer your advice. Any time a customer and/or teacher offers help, advice or has a complaint, I say thank you for noticing and taking the time to tell me about it, but really fix the problem if possible, they might notice and that will be good buisness. You might suggest they sign up on SOTW and inter act with us.
