I had a nice Dukoff D7 for alto. It played extremely well on my previous alto, a Yamaha YAS32 but it didn't play so well on my current Yanagisawa A991. The Dukoff sounded much more thinner on Yanagisawa than on Yamaha. Have you noticed this? Anyone using a high baffle mpc on Yanagisawa alto? Many smooth jazz players play Yamahas and use high baffle pieces on them. It seems to be a good match.

I missed my old Dukoff so much that I bought a Dukoff M6 last week. A dark sound with an edge, but the sound is too thin in my opinion.

Try to use a harder reed if you can (if you are using No. 2, try 2.5).

Also test a Beechler Beechler metal to see if that sound is you want.
Beechler metal + Java 2.5 (or blue box traditional) work wonderful on my A-991. Very brillance & rich tone.
