I found this Typewriter Soprano being sold locally by an older lady for $600, but in order to get it i'd have to try to shove off my Yamaha YTS-52 Tenor relatively quickly. From these pictures that she's sent me, it seems to be in pretty good shape. The spatula (i guess it's still called that on a typewriter) cluster seems a little out of whack, but otherwise it looks ok. It also comes with a metal scroll shank Selmer mouthpiece. I don't know exactly how playable this thing would be as far as the feel of the keywork, as I've heard the typewriter models are uncomfortable at best. So what do you pros and Martinites think?

Here are some pics the lady sent me:

The keywork on the Typewriters doesn't feel uncomfortable, it looks like it should but it is in exactly the right place and under the Fingers. If you're accustomed to modern horns then adjusting to vintage keywork on any horn will cause you some anxiety. It doesn't take long to do this adjusting of the fingers.

A Martin sop is a fantastic thing to own, this one in the Picture is a relacquer. It looks like a modern Epoxy but this shouldn't trouble a Martin much at all. If you don't want this horn then I do.

Hi Paul,
Those caps come standard on Selmer Metal Classics for soprano. I don't like them at all. Not something I want to fumble around with switching horns on a job; reed splitters to me. I replaced the ligature on mine with a Rovner I picked up for $7.00 at a MARS going out of business sale and use the cap that came with the Rovner.
