Could someone illuminate me as to why the really old Conn's are high pitched, and does anyone know out there how much they are worth?

Conn made both low pitch (A=440)and high pitch (A=457) for a while to "boost international sales." (Ref: http://www.saxontheweb.net/Goodson/Conn.html)
Since the standard pitch is now 440, the high pitch horns are not playable in modern ensembles.
There was someone selling a high pitch horn saying that you could raise the pitch further and then play the sax in a different key. This was however debunked in another thread since the extra raising or lowering would not be uniform across the sax's entire range.
So basically, high pitch horns are worthless except as collector's items or being made into something artistic.
