Well, I just got this tenor today. BOught it from Evidence here at SOTW; stand-up guy, smooth deal.

I'm a life long Selmer guy; have & love a Ref54 just to give you all some perspective.

The hunt for a vintage sounding horn to contrast my Ref started w/ the Mauriats; they were ok. Not exactly right for me.

THis is nothing short of wonderful. Its definetly darker than the Ref. More spread. Its well made, the neck is tight, the posts are solid, the arms on the keys are at least as thick as the Ref's, and the low C actually has 2 arms between the key and the pad. Holy CRAP is it a looker...just gorgeous  :compress:

On the downside. It lacks a smidge of resonance in the A & G. Just a bit of an early end to the notes. In contrast, its much more resonant in D2 than the Ref. I suspect a leak or 2 there, but it speaks well enough to tolerate for now. I'm looking forward to having it over time to see if the much argued theory of metalic aging and settling is noticeable.

I'm pretty excited! Really fun (& blessed) to have & play.

Congratulations!
Can't imagine you sounding any better than you already do!

Thanks Mope, I'd say the Borgani is different than the Ref, not necessarily better. My daughter says there are things she likes about both, but they're definetly different and definetely nice.

Very fun!

I may have changed my mind.

I might like the Borgani's sound better than the Ref54. Its really growin on me. I'll be recording the 2 & posting the results for input soon.

Before I settled on a Ref 36 Tenor, I tried about 10 Borgani's and apart from them all sounding different, some were really good, just not quite as good as the particular Ref 36 I found...

Jazaddict - enjoy... you made a great choice and do post some clips...

If you are interested in the sound of Borgani saxophones (including the Lovano model) please have a look to the pages of my personal web site in the Virtual Tours section:

http://www.hobbysax.com/Borgani.html

It is available only in italian for now but you can always enjoy the sound of their saxophones.

Somethig of similar exists also for R&C

all the best,

That's a great site. I wish I could read Italian! I have a Borgani Jubilee tenor among my arsenal, and I have to say it's amazing. A huge colorful sound and great intonation and keywork. I find the sound is too broad for my conception of playing funk or rock, but I love it for playing swing and jazz.
