Hi, I've bought a Link Tone Edge #5. I think it plays great but I'm wondering if a smaller sized facing means you're less experienced or it just depends on your preference? Also, does bigger facing sound better than a smaller one? Much appreciated. :)

It's somewhat a matter of personal preference. A larger facing can sound different from a smaller facing. I generally think that younger players and players coming to tenor or bari for the first time should start on something like a 5 or 5*. Once they get used to blowing the larger horn I think a 7 or 7* is a great size. They really don't have to move off the 5 - it just depends on what you're looking for as a player. Smaller and larger tip openings each have pros and cons.

NO - It's really personal. Younger players generally play smaller tips opening simply because they don't have enought air power or embourchure stength to control a large tip opening. BUT - Many players prefer .100 or below and are playing at or near professional level. Of course some pros like mouthpieces .140 or above. It also depends on the reed choice, baffle and cahmber design, tonal concept, and in some part physical attributes. Some people are just born BIG MOUTHPIECE players. Just like some are tall and some are not so tall. GOOD Luck with your search.

Real men play hard reeds on big mpcs. :)~

Actually in reality, it is what feels right to you at a given time in your sax playing life. Speak with your teacher about any mpc choice issue and see what works out best for you. There is no one perfect mpc or set-up, anyone who states that this is the case should be viewed with some scepticism.
