Hi everyone. I'm a guitar player that doubled on tenor and alto sax for many years back in the 60's and 70's. Now that I'm not as active as a gigging musician anymore I broke out the old Yamaha YTS-61 and I'm trying to get my chops back.
I've been lurking around this forum for a few days and it seems like there are lots of great discussions around techniques, equipment, music etc.
Just wanted to say hello.

Hi guitarbob. Welcome. I'm a sax player who started playing guitar out of college. Until one year ago I had been primarily playing guitar with occasional sax soloing (3 tunes/set) for almost 30 years. Then I woke-up one day and decided to get back to my true self. All those years I kept my Mark VI alto. Last June I bought a tenor, started practicing and here I am.
Yes, there are lots of great discussions about equipment and technique here. I got sucked into the equipment thing. Electric guitar players usually have to go through their 'search for the holy grail' of amps and overdrive boxes. I've come full circle with regards to sax, though.
You've got a good horn in that YTS-61, and you probably have a mouthpiece that works for you. The key to a good sound is still the same as it's always been: air support. Remember to practice with discipline - long tones, scales/arpeggios/intervals/etudes/ear training(improvising). Those are the things I'm working on.
Have fun and post frequently.

LOL, I've noticed that guitarists talk about equipment, sax players talk about sax playing.

In 76 I had a pair of Martin Tenor and Alto's stolen. I took my credit card and dragged myself to Long and McQuade with every intension of buying a Mark VI but the salesman showed me the YTS-61 and how much I could save. Turned out I liked the YTS-61 better.
I also bought a replacement for the Otto Link 7* that was with my Martin which I still have and will never part with.
The funny part is that I never received the credit card bill. After a year I canceled the card so someone is out a few thou, but not me.

I lost all of my exercise books in a flood several years ago. Any recomendations?
