I've bought a Dolnet from Howarth's: 'didn't know anything about it , just liked the sound and the playing. But it seems to need some work done. Two well known repairers in this area have advised me that there is a bad repair to the front F key. The forked lever that links to raise the other keypad has been bent so that it takes the shaft of the key directly, rather than by a projecting post. Its a direct metal to metal contact, too. The strange thing is that there is no sign of there having been a projection from the shaft of the key. I f there was it must have broke off really clean.
There is no model name on the sax, just "Dolnet, Paris, made in France" on the right side of the bell ( and lots of other engraving). By the serial no. I reckon its mid '50s, either Bel Air or Imperial type.
I have to decide whether to have this key mechanism improved when I get the Sax overhauled, if indeed there is anything wrong with it as it is.
What would be a great help would be if anyone with a similar model to mine would e-mail me a close up of their front F, (it shows best if viewed slightly from above looking downward)
For my part I can send an image of mine to anyone that wants to see it so they can say for sure if it is as it should be.
Is there any way I can post a picture to the forum?
I really love playing the Dolnet. I have just bought an Otto Link 7* rubber, and a 7* metal "New York", (which suited better than the standard metal) and they sound terrific, especially the Metal
