Alright, so I bought a vintage R&C alto, and I don't know anything about it's past, when it was made, who has played it, etc. It has the following engravings on it:
5645
2Jedson
I also want to know if the original case should be replaced with something a bit more protective. I want a locking case that will stand up to the abuse of a college Music major. . . Thanks a lot!

Sorry I can't help you but you can contact directly the factory www.ramponecazzani.com , if I remember well. They also have some very very good case for your saxophone.

Thanks a lot, stan! I think I got a great deal on the horn, and it should be here on Monday. The case is as old as the horn, and I feel kinda weary of using the original case. I'll contact the factory and ask what they say. Thanks again!

There is not much information with regard to R&C history.....one of Italy's best kept secrets. As Stan says, they provide probably the classiest fitted case on the market. When I gig my R1 tenor I use an old case for fear of damaging the original.

Well, I did contact them, and they responded. They said that my horn was most likely made in the 1940's, and it was originally sold by Jedson company, one of the original authorized distributors of the horns. don't think I'll use the original case too terribly much, also for fear of destroying it. . . It's in EXCELLENT condition, the case isn't scratched, torn, dented, or broken at all. Really an amazing horn too. Thanks a lot for your help guys.

Picked up my horn from Gary at Michigan Winds, and it plays pretty well, a little resistance, and it squeaks a little, but it sounds great! Nice broad, dark, beautiful tone, and the keywork takes a little getting used to, but it's overall a great horn! I love it now!
