Hello!
I have an S1 tenor that lets say, does not live up to what people have said about these horns. After some less than satisfactory tech work, and acquiring some proper tools I've decided to overhaul this beast myself. The road is fraught with peril! but I think I can do it. Any comments or concerns would be appreciated. Right now I'm looking for good pad sets (recommend any thing you like, though I am on a budget. Then again I don't know how much they cost in the first place. $60 is alright) and recommended or factory default key heights. As for the key heights I don't think I need all of them or any of the side keys. Just one or two from the upper and lower stack to give me a place to start would be fine. If someone could do that for me that would be really great!
Thanks for your time,
Joel

You'll want to measure the individual key cups and order the correct size pads. Feree's is a good source, their catalog itself is full of good insights. As for the key heights I don't think I need all of them or any of the side keys.

Huh? Key height is the distance of the pad from the tone hole when open, critical to intonation.

Thanks! I meant that the key heights are wacky right now, but if I had an idea of where some of the main ones should be (I'm thinking of the ones that are open at rest), then I ought to be able to figure out the others by trial and error.
