I have been playing alto sax for two years and I would like to become more "diverse" in the saxophone family. What size saxophone do you recommend for a transistioning alto saxophone player?

Soprano, tenor, bari, it doesn't really matter. Just pick one you like and have access to, and start blowin!

Any but personally I play Alto and have done for 5 years, I then have just started soprano and love it, the transition was easy too! good luck!

Contrabass is definitely going to be the way to go. If for some reason you find you are unable to either locate or afford one of these beauties then I would go with tenor.

If I were you, I would want to get something that is different. See, the alto and the tenor are not that different. One is just a little bit lower than the other. I would want something that is a little more drastic of a difference. Like bari. Bari is a full octave lower than alto. And it'd be an easy transition. I play alto and soprano and love them both. So now that I said all that, if I were you, I'd get a soprano.

Tenor, it is more practical. How often are you going to cet a call to play tenor vs. soprano. Do what sounds the most fun to you, but if you want to be practical, go tenor. You will find that the tenor doesn't collect dust like a soprano does...
