Does anyone know about a Dolnet tenor sax Model: Studium?
I am considering buying one for my dad. He played in many big bands in the 40s-60s. He is now 83 and I think he would enjoy playing again. Sold his horns in the late 60s. the condition of the horn is good, (serial #48861) not pretty but sounds great. Price is $450. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Frank

Dolnets, to me, are synonymous with difficult, time-consuming servicing because of a none too high standard of design &/or manufacture.

A Dolnet tenor???? yes, yes,, yes,,, i'd love to have one...They were a very well made instrument,, but really never caught on in this country.. They're big in France....After all ,,,,Don Byas played one....Some of them had a funky little gadget octave key on the neck....I chased down a Dolnet alto up in B. C. a while back,,,but didn't get it,,, I think the deal was crooked anyway...Frankly,, I think anyone getting one of these horns is getting a hell of a deal.... But,,,,,, thats just my opinion...

Bill, I picked up my Dolnet on Ebay for $225 including shipping. It's a great horn, easy blowing. Not sure what era / vintage Gordon NZ has worked on, but mine is pretty easy to work on and seems pretty well put together.
Gotta love that search feature!
