I bought this sax last year, intending to learn how to play along with my piano/guitar/vocals tracks. Still trying, but I need money. How much is it worth? Needs refinishing, good pads and mechanisms, sounds wonderful, no case.Keep Love in Your Heart. Peace is in Your Hands - Me

Well, since no one has seen fit to reply to this rather simple question, I will give you my two cents worth. Many are of the opinion that all of the Pre Zephyr model KINGS aren't very good horns. They do have outdated keywork that must be setup and maintained regularly, some quirky intonation issues etc., but think about it-what horn doesn't! I find their tone to be outstanding, with plenty of power, and the keywork isn't all that bad when set up properly. Also, the quality of finish on vintage KINGS in general is excellent. I wouldn' t pit the early models up against a modern recording session or gig- however, since I do a lot of 20's and 30's stuff, I find them perfect for that job. I wouldn't recommend having them refinished, though. Just get them repadded and put in good mechanical order. I am of the school of thought that, in most cases, refinshing vintage horns does more harm than good to both the horn, and it's value. Which leads me to your question about it's worth: these horns usually sell in the $300 to $800 range, and depending on condition and finish etc. sometimes a little more. Hope this helps. Michael S.
