Iīm studying alto sax for a couple of months, I know itīs not a long time but I practice every day...I donīt know why sometimes I can reach de low notes and sometimes itīs impossible, I know about the air flow, the embouchure, but I dontīknow why or what I do different when I reach them or when I donīt. I know my sax isnīt a great one Itīs a new Maxtone and I have a Vandoren v16 moutpiece and I use Vandoren reeds 21/2..

Hang in there. It will get easier. In the mean time, has your horn been checked recently for leaks? This is the biggest problem with low notes.

After that, give Bootman's reed-drilling a try. It's discussed elsewhere on the board--a search should bring it up.

Do long tones and overtones on the low notes...starting on Bb and working your way up chromatically. hold each note for 4 beats with metronome set at 40

Get your teacher to see if he/she can get the low notes cleanly. Horns are most sensitive to leaks on the bell notes.
