When you hire someone to take over 100 pictures of your band, there has to be a couple pictures that aren’t exactly too good looking. So (they are gonna kill me but anyway)… I invite you folks to vote for the most dorky looking sax player.

Awww, Kim, you look like you WANT to win in that picture :).

I'm gonna vote for Maryse. (And no, folks, the guy named Peter is not me.)

I actually came to this thread in hopes of voting for one of the more famous sax-player-types. Gerry Mulligan has a somewhat unflattering picture in Paul Lindemeyer's book :D.

Charlie Parker never had to put up with stuff like this.
Linda's not looking too happy in that pic so she gets my vote.

I voted for Kim, just because that red Runyon clashes with the orange boa.

Maryse definately. she looks like she's going to eat that trumpet next to her next time he kicks off his high e.

It's a coin toss between Maryse & Kim.

Err... No

I'm sorry I've dissapointed you, but hey after this maybe we're all gonna be famous.

Peterk : Ok, lemme get this straight. After I've posted a pic of you in not one of your best looking moment, you still have the heart not to vote for me?? Wow, you must be real affraid of me, I didn't know I had such a powerful influence on you.

meruhl : I bet you wish you had an orange boa to match your red Runyon 8)

This is a tough call for me...les chyx Québécoises sont trés jolies...but I'm gonna vote for Maryse. Just something about the name Maryse...it's so geek-grrl...

About Mulligan's pic in CTS...it's the earliest I know of! Between the pompador and the metal Runyon mouthpiece, you'd hardly know it was him. I defend its use on the grounds that it's a fantastic historical document.

Maryse and Kim get anti-geek bonus points for having tenors, so they're right out of the running here...

Pete

I was gonna nominate Buddy Holly, err... Lee Konitz. I just decided on Mulligan because I'm virtually positive I had the same shirt, tie and pants a couple years ago :).

Thanks, Paul!

I can't believe people are trashing the ladies this bad.
Paul Desmond has got to be the most geeky looking famous sax player....by far.

Pete

But he made up for it with his witty repartee.

I had to vote for Linda, only because she wasn't wearing a hat! :P

I voted for Maryse. Both ladies don't look happy, each is wearing a feather boa and Hawaiian shirt with sunglasses, but I think it's Maryse's hat that put me over the top. I can deal with the feather boa, but that's just not a way cool hat. At least, I've never been a hat person...

Well thanks max. Actually I didn't want to say it but that's the feeling I been getting; Too many alto players voting in this poll

I'm insulted. You know I play bari :).

Oops! I didn't know that

Well anyway saxpics, I been wondering since you're the moderator... are you sure you aren't fooling around with the poll? Cause there is no way I can be that much dorky... nope, that's just impossible!

Good point. Shame on me for forgetting that alto players are geeks by definiton. Can I change my vote?

Why does everybody look as if something's happened to their teeth? Is this a special sort of embouchure? We need to know.

Peterk

It's called the "Equinox Snarl".
It serves 2 purposes....

1) Frightens the trumpet players
2) Keeps the lips velvety soft and moist during those hot and humid Independence Day gigs.

...now someone slap me if that isn't the geekyest comment you ever heard

I haven't tampered with the votes ... as far as you know :D.

In terms of worst looking pro,
There's a picture of lenny pickett with a three foot radius red afro. That's pretty hard to beat. (The fact that in that picture he's probably playing a G5 is also pretty hard to beat.)

That was for Independence Day? I thought maybe you had a special Doofus Day Celebration up there. And are all three women dipping snuff, or did someone soak your reeds in Angostura bitters? Out of 100 pictures, how about showing us another one, maybe the keeper?

kcp
07-16-2003, 07:16 PM
Yes, that was for Independence Day. We went in the States for that gig. The Doofus Day Celebration in Canada is callaed "Confederation Day" and is july 1st

About your request: Here (http://host64.ipowerweb.com/~kimcpell/ebb/lineupen.html) are some of the other 100 nicer pics.

Much better. Your band looks and sounds like you're having a blast! Save those other pictures for blackmail, if needed.

I saw a guy playing on TV who looked like Harry on Third Rock From the Sun...none of those people look dorkey to me. :) But...that one dude...he even played like how I imagine Harry would...his face all contorted...it was quite odd.

Peter looks almost normal for your average-joe gigging sax player.

Mel

Peter does look like your average sax player. So Linda got my vote. After all, as someone else pointed out, she IS an alto.

None of the above.
My vote goes to that Dave Katz chappie,or whatever his name is.
When he does that stupid rock n roll hand in the air thing.
