Hey everybody, I've been thinking about joining one of those music clubs again. i.e. bmg, columbia house, etc.I used to do this alot, years ago for the free music, long before I started playing the sax. Mostly 70's & 80's pop.Now I want to start loading up on jazz, mostly sax dominated stuff.Other than the ones I've been exposed to or really like, Adderly,Coltrane,Getz,Desmond,Parker, etc., are there any must have players that I should be looking for? Living, passed on,new or old. I'm pretty new to the jazz scene. Thanks, Todd.

Todd: Sidney Bechet, Coleman Hawkins, and Johnny Hodges (soprano, tenor and alto, in that order, although they all played other instruments/saxophones) are three that come to mind, mainly to give you some exposure to older styles of jazz. DAVE

Save your money and aggravation. Make your list from here, but avoid the clubs. You can make out a lot better buy checking Amazon and/or eBay. Also, you can probably do some listening at your local public library.

You might want to consider eMusic.com for an inexpensive way to build your collection. I signed up for 65 downloads a month for $14.95 (less than $.25 per tune or about $2.50 for a CDs worth. Lots of great jazz selections. Check it out, if you do decide to join, please let me know, and I can send you an invitation and get some free downloads for myself!
