Has anybody heard about a C Bari?

Yes, but they're often mistaken for C basses, which were obselete 80 years ago.

No, not really. The bari used to be offered in F, though, to fit in with orchestras. But those went out with the C bass sax.

Yes. if you apply logic to the sax family (on shaky ground here then ;) ), the C-saxes relate to Bb models, and the defunct F-saxes relate to Eb models.

So saxes in C could only be the C-soprano, C-tenor and C-bass. The bari and alto versions would be have been F-bari and F-Mezzo Soprano (closer in size to an alto than a soprano).

So maybe, somewhere, there just might be an F-Nino and an F-Counterbass ? Come on out of the woodwork someone - and tell me there is/are !!

As far as I understand it...

F 'nino- none known, none will be known [probably]

C Sop- lots, [including Clar-o-sax, Saxie etc.] could be a new one within the next 5 years?

F mezzo- some examples, including 'conn-o-sax'. Little chance of a new one.

Cmel- lots, including contralto, could be a new one within the next 5 years?

F Bari, two or three in existence, but validity unknown [may be (very) high pitch]. Little chance of a new one.

C Bass, three or four left. First saxophone produced a C Bass. Little chance of a new one.

F Contra, none, but Benedict Eppelsheim says that a F tubax "would be possible if someone wants it". For a lot of money however.

C Subcontra, One made, avaliable to custom order from BE.
