Since there always seems to be much controversy about people using the search button, particularly for those new to the forum, I was thinking of a few suggestions that might make the spool-up time better....

At work, we have some similar data issues when dealing with our bug-tracking approach (We use an open-source system called "Bugzilla", but that's not the point). The software allows you to build queries on multiple fields, then save the query for later use... for example I can build a query that shows me all of the "NEW" bugs assigned to me within a particluar component, etc.

I have no idea whether this can be done in vBulletin or not, but having some of this kind of functionality might be useful... You include some "101" type searches that they go to as a first exposure to the forum from which they can alter and create new ones, so that they are thinking of things in a different paradigm (i.e. search first, browse next).

Alternatively (or perhaps in addition to...), allow "guest" and "new" users to only search for some period of time, i.e. no "Browse" capabilities.

...so, just trying to think of constructive ways to get past some ongoing conflict...

I know of a great way to overcome the conflict:

People can stop posting negativity-laden gripes. :)
