So I just bought this sop

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2541428066&category=16 203&rd=1

(don't know if this was actually Bob Wilber's horn or not--doesn't matter to me.)

And I'm normally a tenor player. Just wanted to get good on the straight horn.

I'd like some help figuring out what direction i should go as far as mouthpieces are concerned. I'm looking for a dark tone--almost no edge. I can't spend a lot of dough--blew it on the horn. And i'd like to find a piece that's easy blowing. On tenor, i usually play a HR .115 Dukoff fluted chamber with 2 1/2 reeds. What would correspond to this on sop? And if anyone's played old Martin Sops, what sounds good on 'em?

Thanks in advance for your advice. I really don't know where to start.

When I started on soprano I found the HR Oto Link "Tone Edge" models fairly dark sounding. I remember selling mine because it was darker than I cared for.

Any of these would be good to start with:

you might want to try the HR Bari sop pieces-they're pretty good and not too expensive-maybe start with a.064 or .066-somewhere around this tip opening and see if you'd be more comfortable more or less open. Your Martin sop will want and need a large chambered piece for tone and tuning

another vote for the rubber link.these work well on vintage sops and have a dark rich sound. the hite is also very good.

Zowee! This thing is RIIICH. Lotsa fantastic vibes coming from this thing. This horn is FULL of sound, and it has a vibrantly dark palate. I've just got a no-name hard rubber piece for now--plays pretty well.

I have a Selmer SuperSession G opening that I like a lot. Nice dark sound with good projection and excellent intonation. I tried the F, G and H and the G was the best of the 3 for my taste.
