Has anyone ever played on or own one of these horns? I've read that they're made by B&S which make the Medusa and the old Guardalas so I'm interested in the CJ's considering the praise B&S gets for its other models. Plus WWBW has them on closeout for $1229(I think it's a good deal:?) for an alto which is what I'm looking for. Any info would be a great deal of help :).

They are made by B&S (or were), and are excellent horns.

If you do a search by Allora, B&S or Chicago Jazz you'll find lots of posts and opinions regarding these horns. All of these brands are made by B&S.

Thanks, I've picked up a lot useful info from the searching :). I guess I'll try for the CJ if all I've heard about it is true, especially at $1229 which seems like a steal.

I saw Spyro Gyra on Saturday night, and Jay Beckenstein was playing a Chicago alto.

Well, I've ordered the CJ gold laquer alto. I'll post something once I get it :).

EDIT: :/ they sold out of the gold laquer before I could get to it so looks like I'm gonna get the Earthtone finish(hopefully they still have some in stock).

I ordered the last gold laq tenor from wwbw. Though it needs some minor work, it's great playing horn with fantastic price. They only have altos now.

Haha that's quite funny, only 2 days after my order goes through, WWBW magically has the laquer, earthtone, and black altos all in stock at closeout.

If the closeout price is lower than your deal, you can call them and insist on the lower price (within a reasonable period of time). At least that's the guarantee they offered before .... I forget the timeline.

It's not the price, I just find it's funny since they told me they were going to be out of stock soon, but they just added more.
