I've never seriously played sax...but took a woodwind class in college
(Music ED) once upon a time.. So now 20 years later I 've got some time to have fun ...I have a Jupiter Tenor that I've been trying to start on...I have a stock mouthpiece, vandoren #2 reed...

I'm having alot of trouble in the lower register...Really have to drop my jaw almost like having none to get away from harmonics. Especially from E down...

Tonight the horn got gurgly,, I'm assuming salava in mouthpiece...and I reverted to the chapstick fix....But still trouble real low....Any thoughts ?

Also..anybody interested in helping a guy get started in the VA or NC Area. I could use a lesson or two to avoid any bad habits from the start.
Would also like someone of skill to test this horn to see if it needs a tune up..

Thanks....This is a great site !!!! and very encouraging for newbies...

Sure sounds like a leaky horn to me. Save yourself a lot of aggravation and frustration. Get a good repairman to look at the horn and fix any leaks. Best wishes and have fun! :D

I agree. Get it serviced.

A leaking sax can still be played, but the more it leaks the more demands it makes on the skill and versatility of the player.

Those are commodities the beginner does not have!

These guys are most likely correct.
Also, try a 2&1/2 or 3 reed. Those stock mpcs are usually pretty closed.
