Lately, there's been a number of threads posted not related to music. That's fine with me. I often find these to be the most interesting part of any online community. Many other forums I visit have an off topic section that includes a General OT, Politics, Fight Club, and an ongoing Apology Thread. These post and replies do not have to show up when using the crack button (a.k.a. new posts) or lurkers (a.k.a. non-members). So, if you like to talk about things here that are unrelated to music, you can get yourself down to the "dungeon". This would leave the SOTW member lounge to music related topics.

Just a thought ;)

Got one. It's called the lounge.

I also tend to think of the lounge area as a non-musical topic area. It seems as if most music related discussion would have an appropriate area for posting, be it musical styles, performers, equipment, etc....

Well yeah, but I was suggesting a new "section". The lounge has now more music related stuff that not. That's likely due to the fact musicians are here. I see some don't like this type of stuff on a music related site (judging by replies and the fact threads get deleted). A new OT section is where we could let it all hang out within reason. If you like politics, you'll find like minded (or not) socially aware saxaholics there. If you want to pick a fight with a poster who's on your case elsewhere on SOTW, fight club is for you. When you want to kiss and make up, post to the apology thread.

I think tjontheroad "hit the nail on the head"
If there was this new section, it would take a concious choice to go there and either partake, peruse or be offended, but it would be a choice. It would eliminate the whining that people are offended which to me is way more offensive than ANYTHING posted in ANY thread.
This is much like the quandry of public TV and radio: as Howard Stern is so fond of saying, "A radio(or TV) has two buttons on them, one changes the channel and one turns it off...if you're offended, feel free to use either one."
My 2 cents.

From the Forum Charter (http://www.saxontheweb.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=15076):

The Sax-on-the-Web (SOTW) Forum is a moderated Discussion Board. All posts and threads not conforming to topics defined in this charter and rules or amendments thereof are subject to cancellation or deletion at the moderator's and/or administrator's sole discretion.

==============

The primary focus of this group is saxophones and everything that has to do with playing, maintaining or selling and buying saxophones. Your contributions to this Forum must pertain to these topics. Off-topic discussion threads should be posted in the “SOTW Forum Lounge” area or submitted to the approval of the moderators/administrator.

Yeah, I always thought that was what the Lounge was for. It would be confusig to have 2 sections of 'off-topic' stuff, it would be hard to determine wher to place your new threads and ultimately one owuld just become more used an the other would lose most activity and we would be back to where we started.
