I won an American Artist on ebay, and after doing a google search, all that I was able to find out was that it was probably a Conn stencil; I also found a few places that said it might be a beuscher stencil.

Other than that, I haven't really found much information on them. I haven't gotten mine yet, so I'm still wondering what it is I'm getting.

If anyone's ever played one or has any information on them, what're your takes on them?

Check out Dr. Rick's website The Village Sax and Flute shop [sorry I don't have the URL]. He has really great pictures on identifying stencils. If it is Buescher, you will be able to tell fairly easily by the octave mechanism. I have an old Silvertone tenor that is a Buescher stencil and it is my favorite horn. In today's high $ environment, stencils are a good way to go.

I had an American Artist Alto that played very nicely and I'm sure it was a Martin handcraft stencil. It had hugh beveled tone holes, no front f key and played in tune with a great tone. I sold it to a friend of mine who loves it.
