CONSTRUCTION: Rocking thumb rest

Hello,

The rocking octave-key thumbrest on my SML rev D alto doesn't have any cork or other material to prevent it from clinking on the body tube at either end of its pivoting stroke. Did the thumbrest ever have any pads to stop this, or is the way they came out of the factory?

A little late but may be it still helps:
there is a little felt under mine thumprest.
Seems original to me.
