I new to saxontheweb (I joined today) and I'm posting about reed mouthpiece combos I should have for my horn. I've been playing tenor sax 4 years and still don't understand the proper reed mouthpiece and horn setup I should have for my horn. I own a Conn 10 M tenor sax and a Masteller mouthpiece. What mouthpiece/reed combination should I use to a achieve a bright full sound from my horn?

Djazzy: Welcome to SOTW.

No one can answer your question - we are all different . . . in embouchure, in playing concepts. Others will make recommendations but that's all they will be.

I've had many folks recommend mouthpieces to me over the years and very few have worked for me. I went out and found the set-ups I like; you must do the same thing.

If you are taking lessons, ask your teacher. If you are around other more experienced tenor players, maybe they can help you. I've helped other players by allowing them to test my pieces (under sanitary conditions of course); maybe someone you know will help you that way. If you are near a well-stocked music store, take your horn there and get to it. DAVE
