Hi,
I'm having huge problems with my low C# which is almost 40 cents too high. All the other notes are fairly in tune. Can anyone suggest what to do?
The problem even gets worse if I swith off the g#/c# coupling mechanism under the left hand pinky table (the c# flap then opens up a little more).
I have a 1966 Gold Medal tenor and I'm using a Berg-Larsen Bronze (110 2 SMS) with a LaVoz medium reed.
How far is it opening? Mine opens about 5/16" at the most - maybe only 1/4".

It opens about 1/2 inch with the g#/c# coupling switched on and about 0.6 inch without the coupling.
@max: where does the key touch to stop it from opening further? My horn has a thin piece of cork at the arm of the key that touches the bow.
Mine too - although I wouldn't describe the cork there as "thin" - it's not huge by any means, but you only need to add a little to see a bigger effect at the end of the key.
Build it up a bit to keep it from opening so far and see how that works for you...

@ max
Thanks a lot for the advice.
I increased the thickness of the bumper with several layers of adhesive tape over the cork and found the intonation problem virtually dissolved.
My fear that the c# would sound muffled now that the tonehole opens so little did not materialise.
Thanks again.

:? and you will make up a cork to fit of course?
Don't use just any adhesive tape. Only 3M MagicTape has proven magical properties. I use it for all types of repairs, as well thousands of other applications. t has actuaaly made me much more handsome thann I used to be.
What in 'ell is he talking about?
