View Full Version : Different tenor models
I hear lots of praise on the 898SG tenor (Artist model with the silver-plated body and solid silver neck). The local stores here don't have this model. They have the Artist model 989 (gold-lacquered). What's the difference between these two models? It's hard to find the "silver-version" 898SG here in Europe because most of the stores carry this gold-lacqured version only.
Thanks,

I would say silver plated saxes have a sligthly brighter sound w/ better projection than gold lacquer but there are those in this forum who believe finish doesn't matter. When I played a EX 90 Tenor in lacquer and one in black nickel plate I thought the nickel plated sax was a bit brighter than the laquered one. Maybe someone who has a silver plared jupiter will post.

I have the silver plated tenor 889SG, i bought it because of it's rich and dark sound of which i adore. i don't find it has a brighter tone than gold lacquered saxes from which i use to play. They are terrific horns and it seems that pros are beginning to like them as well.
