Hello, is it normal to see teeth marks on mouthpiece? I bought the Selmer C*80 mouthpiece and even when using the adhesive mouthpiece protection made by vandoren, there is a slight teeth mark on the new mpc already, after 2 hours of playing. Previously I was using a cheap mcp that came with the sax and I thought it's ok to see teeth marks, because it's a cheap soft mpc. I assumed that the more expensive ones will be harder. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong with my teeth, putting too much pressure? :?
Thank you. 8-)

1) yes its ok to see teeth marks
2) some expensive mpc - esp vintage hard rubber are more prone to marking
3) try not to bite the mpc - hard to do if you're dancing around or marching but if you're sitting and getting teeth marks it may be your technique.

I would suggest getting a mouthpiece pad that is thicker. I use the ones called "Mouthpiece Savers". They are thick, relatively, and rubber. The clear thin ones you can get just don't seem to work well for me (plus they feel weird on the teeth).

How long does it take you to bite through the Vandoren bite patch? A couple of days? Weeks? Months? I've had the same clear 3M bite patch on my tenor mpc for over 3 years, and even though I have very sharp top teeth due to my bite, I've only recently worn through the patch.

If you're slicing through the patch quickly, you may be biting too hard.

Hello, I now bought the thick black 3M patch and put it on top of the vandoren clean one. I feels better on the teeth. Teeth mark appears on the black patch in about 1 hour of playing. I hope the pressure won't be so strong when my embochure forms enough. Thanks for your advise, as always!
