Agreed. Nick Brignola was a fantastic player; it's so sad that he's gone. One of the best bari players ever, in my opinion.

I was lucky enough to hear him play years ago at a bar in Albany NY. It was a great performance. He obviously loved playing, too. My friends and I left at around 12:30am, and he was still going (on his third set at that point, if I remember correctly).
His passing is definitely a loss to the saxophone community and true jazz fans everywhere.

I have a wonderful recording of Nick with my dear friend guitarist Tisziji Munoz and band, recorded live in Schenectedy (when they both lived there) and with Nick on alto and soprano. He sounded very loose and free on that date and it is nice to hear him on these other horns. Not just a great bari player, he was tremendous on the other horns too.

A fantastic player on ALL his axes and a helluva nice guy to boot. I was privileged to have heard him live twice and to have emailed him for a few years. He helped me to get my hands on some really hard-to-find materials that he played on. NOBODY had better time on baritone than Nick. Listen to some of the stop-time things he played and set your metronome to HIM!
